The HIPAA Compliance Coordinator should:
– Have some knowledge of of the HIPAA privacy and Security Rules and the solutions available that will allow him or her assist in developing a HIPAA compliance program.
– Be able to document processes towards the goal of implementing the HIPAA compliance program. In order to achieve this, a system will be created that enable the coordinator to monitor the status of the organization’s HIPAA compliance.
– The Coordinator is responsible for helping develop training programs and executing training courses. These should be designated to help employees understand HIPAA compliance and how any changes implemented will affect their specific duties.
– The Coordinator is responsible for helping monitoring HHS and the state’s regulatory requirements. When new regulations or guidelines are introduced, the coordinator must adjust the organization’s HIPAA compliance program to reflect the changes.
Ideal candidates should be:
Timely, organized, very familiar with HIPAA regulations, and familiar with healthcare terminology. At least one year of experience in Healthcare and HIPAA compliancy required.
